Miranda recently wrote an interesting article on the new Halo 3 “True Skill” ranking system.

I then played lone wolves and saw that people who were lower ranks than me now had higher ranks. I wondered to myself wtf this was. I looked at Bungie.net…they told me it was this new “True Skill” Soooo I thought to myself….”So now everyone is on an even playing field”…so this entire year of Halo I have been playing, dreaming to get to major grade 2 means nothing now?
So I know this is a stupid thing to get mad about, but I sat around for about 3 hours being pissed about this.
Am I the only one who is totally mad about this? Am I just being a weirdo?

Now, since the newer “True Skill” came in, I seem to have become worse and the other players much better. I won’t say I was great at it before, certainly not as good as Miranda, my highest skill level being a lowly 14, but this was just unbelievable. Last time I was that bad was when a friend of mine joined my party and I was level 6 and he 20.

I then started looking at their highest skill level. Many are a “true skill” of level 30+. I’d had times before where I would play against a level 20 player, and disliked that, so I hoped this new method would solve this. I need a decent chance at least! It seems that the system has become worse than it was before though.

My previous average of 18 kills per match are over. And my occasional over 20 kills per match days are definitely over. I’m now lucky if I get over 6 kills per match. Maybe I really did get that bad but, I find it hard to believe I got that bad in such a small space of time, and only since the new “true skill” came in.
