Default Xbox360 Fixed by Microsoft......Well and Truly!

I recently suffered from the GirlGamers curse and had my Xbox 360 light up bright red for me (in a ring formation.....RROD ).

I was a proud owner of a flashed 360. I was a little scared to return it to M$ because it was flashed but, I had nothing to lose so sent it off and hoped it would all be fine.

To cut a long story short, Microsoft repaired my 360 and sent it back to me. It didnt cost me a penny and they even sent a 1 month Gold Live membership free for 'inconvenience caused' by the breakdown of my 360.

Then I looked at the 'job sheet', what had they done to my baby? I immediately noted that a new motherboard had been fitted. Great, that solves the RROD. Then I noted that I had a new DVD drive (). Yup, a new DVD drive.......I pretty much knew it there and then but, checked around a little and I now have an unflashable 360 . Microsoft have taken their chance and fitted a (currently) unhackable drive into my 360.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad really. Im impressed with M$ for the service they gave, Im impressed with them for taking their chance and sneaking in a new DVD drive like that - hats off to them for fighting piracy with a dirty cutlass . I can't flash my 360 though and that is bugging me. I dont want to flash it right now but, if I did, I couldnt.

Just thought Id share what happened to me and warn you that if you have a flashed 360 and send it in to M$ on the off chance that they'll fix a problem......dont expect the same 360 to come back, you basically get your plastic casing back and a whole different beast inside.

Actually I dont know how they knew. They must test the 360's, probably have some way of finding out. Of course, when the 360 is flashed, it is opened up and the warranty sticker is voided. That would be a clear sign for them although, my warranty sticker was pretty well back in place , I was 90% sure that they wouldnt guess just by that lol.

It does suck, I now only have one 360 to play 'those' games on and a nicely repaired 360 to play my originals on ( I have originals too, I only use 'back ups' of games I own and thats only to protect the discs which, despite what M$ would tell you, do get burned and scratched from their 'awesome' DVD drives..... maybe the new unflashable drive wont laser burn my games . I doubt that though lol).

I do Xbox 360 repair, and RROD is one of the main reasons I looked into it... Now that I can fix them, I try and help people out with that so this kind of thing doesn't happen... sorry QueenB...

they don't even check to see if its flashed or not. its standard procedure when a RROD goes in to just replace the guts and ship it back out. that's why you get a brand new 3 year warranty because you essentially have a brand new console.

as for the drive they sent you was it a lite-on ? if so then it's not a total loss. yes at present it is not flashable

Quote:
seems its almost there over on xbins is a dvd key grabber for Benq and Lite-on

heres what ive read on x-s

DVD key grabber for Benq and Lite-on

It receives DVDkey from drive serial port and save to file, you need a LVTTL-RS232 converter (max3232) between COM1 (embedded COM1 on motherboard, 0x3F8 IRQ4) and TX RX pins on drive power cable (for liteon the trace to powercable are cut, need a little soldering).
It also saves identify.bin and inquiry.bin, for the spoof lovers.

This "unlocks" also Benq to accept MTK vendor ATA cmds (dosflash etc...), not for liteon

You must power on PC without sata cable connected to drive.
You must poweron the drive with tray half opened and eject switch in open state.
You must power off an on again the drive each time you run the app.

For rs232 troubleshuting, consider that Liteon by default outputs an endless stream of 0x00 and 0x01 at 115200 8N1, you should see it with Realterm with display set to hex

As always, us at your own risk

Thanks and respect to Tiros, Schtrom, TMF, Redline99, c4eva

Geremia

Program in the usual places...look for "DVDkey"

they recon they can also write to the lite-on so shouldnt be long now before a fall release
heres whats needed if you want to give it a try

there's also a updated drive switcher tool to support lite-on drive's, thatb will allow you to put another drive in the xbox and spoof it to believe replacement drive is a lite-on. but it's not 100 percent reliable yet so i have not posted it up

That's pretty cool to know. I don't think QueenB's opened it up yet to check it is a Lite-On yet?

it's almost certain that it is a lite-on as it's the only one that is not flashable yet.
untill a few weeks ago the LG F79K was also a rite sod to do as it required a chip soldered to the drive in-order to flash it but that was overcome very recently.

well if you don't want to void your warranty just yet check this vid so see if you have a lite-on or a benq
