That’s a pretty astounding number. When you get into the specifics, though, is where things get particularly interesting; for instance, check this out:
Among those who use a video game system for online gaming, Xbox 360 is the top system used, with 50 percent stating they play games online via that system. On average, Xbox 360 owners spend the most time per week using their 360s to play games online, followed by PC and PS3 owners using these respective systems for online game play.
Not satisfied with that small nugget, [Only registered users can see links. ] contacted the NPD and to try and pry out some further information on the subject. This is what they got:
Among those who use a video game system for online gaming, Xbox 360 (50%), PlayStation 2 (22%) and Nintendo Wii (18%) are the top three systems used, with Xbox360 continuing to command a dominant lead.
That’s not a typo – PlayStation 2 came in at number two, with the 360 way out ahead. Aside from the abnormality that is the 360, the PS2 and Wii figures can likely be attributes to the fact that they have such large install bases; you’re bound to get a good number of people playing online.
What do you take away from the numbers? Are you surprised?
