Unofficial details for Wii's downloadable game service emerge.
POP coming to WiiWare in 2008
According to a recent [Only registered users can see links. ], Nintendo's response to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network originals will require little more than $100,000 in development cost and games will be limited to no more than 40MB in size.
To enforce this, Nintendo will allegedly expedite pay outs if developers keep their games sizes down (necessity is the mother of invention, right?).
Both Nintendo and third-party publishers will be backing indie efforts says IGN. Additionally, Nintendo will let developers set individual game prices and will only allow one release per developer per month to maintain quality.
Confirmed games to be released on WiiWare include Pokémon, Dr. Mario, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land, a ping pong game, and Bomberman in addition to others. The service is scheduled to launch in early 2008.
UPDATE: 40MB limit is inaccurate. Nintendo has responded by saying, "WiiWare games will come in a range of sizes but we will encourage smaller, more compact games for the service."
