Wii lead shrinks in Japan

But PS3 still being outsold 2-1



The latest monthly figures are in from Japan, and while the Wii's lead remains considerable, now Sony's PS3 appears to be gathering pace in the number two spot. That said, Nintendo's baby is still outselling the PS3 by more than two-to-one.



In the month of October, the Wii sold 110,415 consoles, while the PS3 managed an improved 47,183 sales - according to the latest sales figures from Japanese publishing firm Enterbrain.


Apparently, October is the fourth month in which the PlayStation 3 has closed the gap on the Wii, Ninty's machine having out-sold the PS3 by a huge six-to-one back in June. The Xbox 360 remains comfortably off the pace still, shifting 18,717 consoles over the same month.


Mario Galaxy's release is likely to further boost the Wii in the land of the rising sun, Nintendo's long-awaited opus selling 130,000 copies on its first day of release in Japan alone.
