Nintendo wont ramp up Wii production for the Holidays

Nintendo won't ramp up the production of their popular Wii video game console to keep up with Holiday demand, according to their President Satoru Iwata.

Iwata told Bloomberg News that the company plans to keep monthly production at 1.8 million units a month. He also ruled out any possible price reduction for this Holiday season.


Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime told the Mercury News that the company is [Only registered users can see links. ] trying to get new manufacturing plants online.

"The ability to ramp up production and to sustain it is not a switch that you flick on," said Fils-Aime. "We're working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can't guarantee that we're going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record we won't."

Analysts are expecting strong demand for the Wii which which continues to sell out in stores around the world.

The Wii has been a strong boost for the company pushing it to record profits of $2.4 billion USD in the year ending March 31.

I am not surprised to be honest. They have been scare from launch. But again, my theory is that they are doing this on purpose. The less you can have something, the more we want it.

But after awhile people will get pissed off just enough to not want anymore. So they better not drag this out for too long. 360 and Wii will dominate the holidays fo sho...

Yeah it's hard even finding them right now. Some guy in my office wants one so bad. He is a MS fanboy though, he was laughing at my Wii the whole time. Now he JUST HAS TO HAVE ONE!!!!
