With high temperatures being the major killer of today's consoles, it's good that people with enough time and resources on their hands are thinking up on ways to counter the bricking epidemic. Such is the case with [Only registered users can see links. ] and their [Only registered users can see links. ] in the ii-case series - the HOT ROCK CASE for the Nintendo Wii.

While it doesn't really help eliminate the actual risk of heat-related damage, the HOT ROCK case does offer an early warning system. The installed [Only registered users can see links. ] change color according to your console's current temperature, this is possible due to the built-in LED thermometer in the mod itself.

Say, for example, your Wii is in a well-ventilated spot, away from direct sunlight and heat - the HOT ROCK case LEDs would glow a chilly light blue. If there's a bit of heat but not enough to cause any significant damage, the lights would then change to green (about 36 - 40 Celsius). And if you're playing with your Wii roasting on an open fire, it'll flash red (over 55 Celsius). That would be your cue to turn the console off and check just what's making it so hot (and if you WERE really roasting it on an open fire, it's time to take it off the spit).

Keep it locked right here for the latest in Team Xtender's series of mods.

I have my Wii in a non sunlit area and it sits next to a fan and is very close to my air conditioner. Although, I am intrigued with this, I think my Wii is safe.

I have noticed that with my Crystal Cooler on my Wii stays alot cooler. We turn it off at night, though, for the obvious reason of it being WAY too bright while we are sleeping.....LOL! In the morning, when we get up, we turn it back on and within two hours it is nice and cool to the touch with just a hint of warmth. It truly is impressive. I still with that it had a heat sensor, though, to turn the fan on automatically. Maybe they will adjust it in the future. It wouldn't be a problem to get an updated one, since they are cheap enough.
