Although some may argue that online play has already become a requirement in today's consoles, it may just simply be that it isn't on top of Nintendo's to-do list. After all, from a company who's been known to follow its own drumbeat, it could be expected to head in just about any direction.

According to EGM's article in their latest issue, though,

The Wii's unified friend code system initially seemed like an upgrade to the DS's daft online plan, but it's actually just more of the same nonsense. Once again, each game requires its own separate friend code list...so get ready to input lots of 14-digit codes. Seriously, designing your entire online strategy around preventing child predators simply isn't a good idea.

Hmm... Could it be that this was implemented under the assumption that you wouldn't want to play online anymore, since you spent the whole day playing Wii Tennis with your friends? Or does Nintendo simply need a bit more time to establish its network and facilities before launching its own brand of online play?
What do you think? Do you agree with EGM that Wii online play is ''doomed''?

Yeah, society has become lazy. I don't mind typing in numbers to do anything. I mean, we have to do it when we use the phone, when we use a calculator, and...........when we use cheat codes for our games....lol. I don't think it is doomed. It will just have to take the ones, like us, that don't mind a little typing to get it up and running.

The typing in number part isn't what annoys me. I don't like how you can't jsut go online, surf the servers, and then pick a game like those FPS. They better make rated M games not have a friend code since the friend codes are just to protect young gamers and to have an M game you need to be at least 17 years old....

Well then can't you just lie about how old you are? I mean there is a way around everything these days. I hope we can play FPS online as I love to shoot people. I hate guns in real life but love them in games.
