However the challenge ended in disaster when 28-year-old Jennifer Strange was killed by "water intoxication". She was hoping to win a console for her three children.

A work colleague said Ms Strange left her job and went home sick because her head was "hurting real bad". She was later found dead at her home by her mum.

John Geary from KDND 107.9 in California, the station that organised the competition, said staff were stunned by Ms Strange's death. He added: "We are awaiting information that will help explain how this tragic event occurred."

Those taking part were given a 225ml bottle of water to drink every 15 minutes. As the contestants were whittled down they were given larger bottles. It's not known how much Ms Strange drank.
....bizarre....all for a Wii too.

Tis all a bit strange ( sawry )

225ml every 15mins..........2/3 of a can really then, every 15mins. Eh, i think i've heard of summit like this before, too much water drunk - for some competition or summit.

Although, i did notice the "We are awaiting information that will help explain how this tragic event occurred." --- does that mean, that they are only assuming at this time, that it was due to the competition, and drinking the water? And that no other factors were involved?

Okay.....condolences to her children and family...

Now...how stupid can you be? That is the dumbest thing ever.

Water intoxication (also known as hyperhydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain function that results when the normal balance of [Only registered users can see links. ] in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by a very rapid intake of water.[Only registered users can see links. ]
