As far as we are concerned, we have yet to meet a gamer who can claim that the Wii has heat problems. We are in fact rather convinced that this video game console doesn't need any supplemental cooling. However, we stumbled upon an accessory today that can make all of that moot.

[Only registered users can see links. ]'s Brando is currently offering Wii Crystal Cooler. It's not a cooling fan per se as the accessory is actually an ordinary stand pimped with blue LED lights. The fan was just an added feature. Speaking of which, Brando listed the following as well:
  • Built in High Velocity Fan
  • Reduce your console temperature, prolonging the life of your Wii Console
  • Cool Blue LED Light adds style to your gaming setup
  • You can turn off the LED and the fan by the ON/OFF switch
  • USB Power
  • Clear, Soft color stylize your Wii
  • Provides Safety, support, and added stability
We haven't tried this Crystal Cooler ourselves but we heard that the product will not automatically turn on should in detect a rise in temperature. There's a switch somewhere there that users should manually hit to make turn on the fan. But still, with a US 19 price tag, Crystal Cooler actually has some potential.

Would be kinda cool if it turned on when it detected a rise in temp. $19US Hmmmmm, should I get suckered into buying this? It could look kinda cool playing in the dark....No...must....resist...

Okay, it looks cool and I would actually like to have. But my birthday has come and gone. I would never buy this for myself.

I like the idea of it, but I think it should have a heat sensor as well so it can turn itself on when needed. Now, if they could only come out with an opaque white casing that could glow.....hmmmm.....the possibilities are endless. lol

Ok......I saw it......and got it! I even have pictures to prove it!! Yep, that's right! I'm now an official owner of a Crystal Cooler. It works, too! LOL! That thing is so bright at night that it is almost distracting when playing a game. You can land a fricken plane with that thing. The fan also makes it much cooler than it would be sitting alone. The fan is located on the base itself and blows air up through the square vent on the bottom of the Wii. I would say it drops it at least 10 degrees cooler. I found it at my local GameStop. I was in there for their GREAT sale and saw it. Now, if only they can make a casing for the Wii to glow like that......Hmmmmm.

My Wii with the Crystal Cooler close up

My Wii w/Crystal Cooler glowing in my gaming center

A better picture, but can't see the glow as well

I'll get some pictures at night for you all to see the full effect. All these were taken during the day.

You asked Bex, so now you shall receive........

Here it is at close-up at night. This turned out really well!

Taken from far away from our couch. Now do you see what I mean about being distracting when the lights are off?! It looks like a night picture of an airport....lol!

This is a little farther back from the first picture.

We have figured out that if you don't have your WiiConnect24 on, when you turn off the Wii (red light), then your USB ports are shut off (Crystal Cooler/Fan shuts off as well). If you have your WiiConnect24 turned on, then you have to use the switch in the back to turn off your Crystal Cooler like normal.
