It has been settled before that the Wii is not about specs and technological wonders. Nintendo has always maintained that it's all about the experience. Given the Wiimote and all, the Wii indeed is like a breath of fresh air to the already saturated market.
With that said, some can't help but wonder if the Wii is something more of a Nintendo's crash test dummy. For all we know, this statement could have been uttered somewhere in their HQ in Kyoto, Japan: "Let's come up with a kick ass controller but keep the hardware at a minimum. If it catches enough steam, then let's bring out our real next-gen console."
Well, that sounds absurd probably to you but don't tell us that the Wii is Nintendo's "end all and be all" baby. There have been talks about the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4. Why not a discussion about Wii 2? Or Wee? Whatever. At any rate, there will be a next cycle of consoles and we definitely can't remove Nintendo from the picture.
Gaming site Destructoid already started discussing about the matter and here are their speculations:
* Because of the heavily-funded development, Wii 2 is comparable or perhaps surpasses the PlayStation 3's capabilities, thus making Wii 2 the most powerful console on the market. With the right amount of money, it could be the leader for some time.
* Wii 2 keeps the Wii control scheme but the entire system is tightened up and perfected. Games are now in HD and in full 5.1 surround sound.
* Wii 2 is sold at $299-$349 in order for Nintendo to at least break even.
* Wii 2 goes on sale in November 2008.
Is the Wii just a crash test dummy and a powerful Nintendo console is on its way? Also, it is possible that the Wii is already it, and it will take around five years before a new model comes around? Tell us what you think.
Just the other day, I heard rumours, that it would be called Wii Nii (sounds much more funnier than Wii 2 )
Wow, Wii in HD :-D twould be cooooooool. And the predicted price tis good too imo. But, just rumours --- but 2008 is a bit early anyway
But, I think Nintendo could do it. I mean, sure there's loads of people sayin the wii isn't true next gen, because it isn't HD, and it doesn't have the graphics. BUT, it's selling. Imagine how much more popular, if it were in true HD
