Default Nintendo Addresses Wii Storage Shortage With SD Cards (Sort Of)

This is kinda old news...but som'n to chew on...

From nintendorevolutionDOTca

Back in June, Laurent Fischer, managing director of marketing, referred to people who were not happy with the limited storage capacity of the Wii as "geeks and otaku".

Fast forward a few months later, and Nintendo is attempting to right the wrong and give gamers another viable option.

The company's explanation is a bit convoluted, so we'll leave it up to you to attempt to figure out exactly how the solution will work.

From the mouth of Iwata, transcribed by Kotaku:

We will make it so that, when there is not enough room on the Wii's internal memory, you will be able to purchase and download Virtual Console and WiiWare software directly from the Shopping Channel to an SD memory card. We will also make it so that you will need to go through just one process in order to transfer Virtual Console or WiiWare software stored on an SD card to the Wii console and then be able to play it.

(why didn't they think of that 3 years ago?)

Anyone with a Wii knows there is a process where you can transfer the content to an SD card

This includes GAMES SAVES (which is highly valuable!) but also if you go to your CHANNELS menu, you can copy cHANNELS to your SD card. Cool as it sounds, it takes a few minutes, depending on the size of the channel. Wouldn't you expect you could just click on "SD CARD" and click on that channel..then play it? You could then just install like every VC / WII WARE wad file etc and play right from the SD card!

But that's not how it works.

When on the menu above, you have TWO options...DELETE and COPY

If you transfer a downlaoded game (when you install it with the homebrew channel) and transfer it to your SD card. If you try and transfer it back, it'll say "data not transferred".

It would have been SO SO SO cool if you can install a game, copy it to your SD card, and then if you wanna play it (as per the LIMITED # of blocks/storage on the wii) you can transfer back and forth.

There are som GREAT games on the Wii...but 1/2 the games are GREAT for parties and some are great for solo or 2 players.

I don't want to have to UNINSTALL a game, and INSTALL it again everytime I wanna use it. I also don't want to budget my Wii internal memory space and PRIORITIZE, "I'll be playing THIS game a lil more often..." or "I'm feeling like I wanna play THIS game now" then if a new game comes out (like WORLD OF GOO which game out recently). it takes up like 300 blocks! that's HUGE! I don't wanna have to preserve space on my Wii, in hopes they don't come out with a good game to try out, when I can take it up with good games.

FEEDBACK ANYONE?
