Homebrew developer Art dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and is calling for support for his hardware project for the PSP known as Homebrew Keypad for PlayStation Portable v1. The coder mentioned that this was actually part of a larger project that required [Only registered users can see links. ] to another micro-controller circuit.

That project was already completed and this time, the keypad part of the circuit was modified for use with the handheld. Numeric keypad is certainly an invaluable tool for developers and the possible addition of a full alphanumeric support with more keys will certainly be useful in the future.

If you want to try out this project, be sure that you have the following items and skills among others:
  • Electronics knowledge and soldering ability is required to complete this project.
  • A pic programmer is required also, to write the firmware to the pic micro-controller in the circuit.
  • Since the remote serial connector is required, the PSP headphone remote may need to be destroyed to complete this project.
The download below contains files for both the hardware aspect of Homebrew Keypad for PlayStation Portable v1. The hardware part enumerates the complete list of necessary equipments. On the other hand, the software part of the download contains the code for Pic Micro-controller.

Since this includes tinkering with the PSP's internal circuit and firmware, please don't start doing this without browsing through all the important documentation that can be found in the download package to avoid any problems.
