Default Custom Firmware OE Guides

Welcome to the Custom Firmware OE Guides Thread

This guide is designed to help people install the very famous custom firmware made by Dark_Alex. It will give you step by step instructions on installing 3.03 OE-C, 3.10 OE-A and A', 3.30 OE-A and A', or 3.40 OE-A. The OE stands for Open Edtition which means that anyone can edit the firmware with plugins (additions to the firmware) or by XMB custamizations. This firmware combines the power of Sony's firmware 1.5 which allows you to play homebrew (home made applications), ISOs (Game rips), and many other things, and then adds the newest firmware. This allows users to play the news UMDs and have the latest advances on the PSP and still have 1.5 firmware capabilities. Please enjoy the guide, and if you have any other questions, scroll down for the Questions and Answers part of the forums. Please remember, you need to have firmware 1.5 to upgrade to these firmwares, if you dont, scroll down to the Q and A's for the downgrader link.

Custom Firmware OE Extras

How to install the included PRX plugins
  • To make your experience with OE a little better, i have included some plugins to make you spice up your PSP. These plugins are not necessery but are a cool thing to have.
  1. Download and decompress the [Only registered users can see links. ]
  2. Copy the seplugins folder to your PSP, placing it on the outermost directory
  3. Restart your PSP in recovery mode, then go to "Plugins" of the menu and enable all of them.
  4. For more awsome plugins that everyone will want, go to [Only registered users can see links. ]
How to run homebrew and games on OE firmwares
  • I made this section becuase people kept on asking me where to put the homebrew files they have downloaded. So here is a short explanation on how to do that.
  • Some homebrews come with two files (ex. 303oeflasher and 303oeflasher%) and some with one. Put them both in the PSP\Game150 folder and launch them on your psp!
  • To run ISOs and CSOs, put the games in the ISO folder located in the root of your memory stick. That is where the PSP folder is located.
How to play PS1 games on OE Firmwares:
  • Becuase Dark_Alex is so smart, he has included a [Only registered users can see links. ] emulator in his custom firmware already "built in". This emulator can only run eboot.pbp games so get the converter [Only registered users can see links. ]. To use, Extract to a folder then run PopStationGUI.exe and locate your PS1Game.bin or .iso and press "Go". For more advanced users, you can press "Edit Eboot" and add a [Only registered users can see links. ] to it.
  1. Becuase I am so nice i have included a small game pack including: Mortal Combat 4, Thrill Kill, Tekken 3, Tony [Only registered users can see links. ] 4, and Ridge Racer. Get it [Only registered users can see links. ].
  2. Extract the games and leave them in their folders
  3. When you make your own game/convert you have to leave it as EBOOT.PBP and KEYS.BIN, but you can put them in a folder by what the game is called.
  4. One you have your games in EBOOT.PBP form, put it in your PSP/GAME folder.
  5. Go to your PSP, Go to Game, then go to ur Memory Card. Your game should be there. If you converted and didnt add a picture to the ebbot, it will show a picture of a Golf Game.
  6. Launch ur game by pressing X
  7. To exit press HOME, and from there you can even change the screen size.
  8. Enjoy your PS1 games!
  • For more PS1 games go to [Only registered users can see links. ] thread created by hazs.
Changing your XMB Icon titles
  • Example: Music -> Muzic, Memory Stick -> Gaming Crazy
Download: RCO Swapper V2

To Use:
  1. Extract the rar file to a folder on ur desktop
  2. Open the folder RCO%20Swapper%20v2
  3. Put ur topmenu_plugin.rco in that folder
  4. Use the drop down boxes to select the menu name you want to change, and then use the edit box below the name to customize it the way you like
  5. Click the "Temp Save" button to see your changes reflected on the right
  6. When you have finished making all of your changes, click the "! Swap It !" button. The blue names on the right will become the new names. Your topmenu_plugin file is now swapped with your custom names!
Changing your XMB (By this means flashing)
!Do this at your own risc, read this guide carefully!
  • This XMB theme is made by BadLTD, so he gets credit for the XMB. Thanks to him, we are going to make your XMB look like this:
  • Since this involes flashing your PSP, a brick might happen. If it does please scroll up to the "How to Downgrade back to 1.5" to unbrick it.
  1. First download the needed files here: [Only registered users can see links. ]
  2. Then follow this guide to make space in your flash0 folder needed to make this work. Use the first guide givent there: [Only registered users can see links. ]
  3. Once done, you can delete the folders that you added for the Flash Agent. By the way, you need this to make room becuase the files in the theme are bigger than the original ones.
  4. Now go to Recovery
  5. Go to advanced
  6. Plug a USB cable to your psp and your computer
  7. Press on Flash0 and it will enable it
  8. Go to your computer, a folder will open, if not go to My computer then to Removable Disc X (X is for whatever your drive is)
  9. Now find the folder called vsh and make a copy of it on your desktop for a backup if something goes wrong
  10. Now go to vsh/resource and take the files from the XMB Theme you just downloaded called topmenu_plugin.rco, system_plugin_bg.rco, and 01-12.bmb and replace/overwrite the original ones in the vsh/resource
  11. Now go to ur PSP and click on Flash0 again and that will disable flash0
  12. Now exit recovery menu and it should work
  13. If your background is white, go to your Theme settings, and make it the first one, it should be like a white square ont he menu. (If everything went good, skip to Step 16)
  14. If something went wrong and you cant enter ur XMB, go back to recovery and replace ur vsh folder with your backup
  15. If that still didnt fix your problem, then scroll up to "How to downgrade back to 1.5" and follow that. That will unbrick your PSP. Now you can get back 3.03 OE-C and everything should be fixed.
  16. Enjoy your new modded XMB!

Custom Firmware Questions and Answers

Q: I already have 1.50. Why should I bother upgrading to this? Is this better?
A:
This firmware is the best one out there right now. It combines the abilities with the 1.5 firmware and the 3.03 firmware for many more capabilities including XMB customizations, recovery menu, and PRX plugins.

Q: I have PSP with a TA-082 motherboard... can I use this firmware?
A:
This firmware will run on all PSPs no matter what motherboard they have. You should only worry about a TA-082 motherboard for downgraders.

Q: What are the limitations of using this firmware?
A:
None at all! You are free to do everything you want with this OE-C firmware. You can play ISOs from your memory stick, load homebrew, customize your XMB and even save your PSP when bricked\Semi-Bricked.

Q: I have 3.03 or below. How do I downgrade to 1.50 so I can use this firmware?
A:
Use the following guide:
  • [Only registered users can see links. ]
Q: After I update, can I delete the files and folders I used to install this update from my memory stick?
A:
Yes, I would even suggest formatting your memory stick, but before you do save your Saved Games located in the PSP\Savedata. Save that whole folder. Also when formating, the firmware will create the necessery files you need.

Q: How do I enter Recovery Mode?
A:
Turn your PSP completely off by holding the power switch for several seconds. Now turn it on holding the Right Trigger button. There you go! You have no entered the recovery menu!

Q: Some of my homebrew has these "Corrupted Data" icons! How do I get rid of them?
A:
Go to the recovery menu (Instructions above). Now go To "Configurations" on the menu and scroll down to "Hide Corrupt Icons (currently: Disabled)" Press X and now it will be enabled. Now go back and press Exit. There you go! You have no entered the recovery menu!

Q: I am getting this error message "This came could not be started (80020321)", what is this and how to i get rid of it?
A:
This error message means that your configurations are wrong or that something is missing. To fix this, enter the recovery menu. Go to "Configurations" and make sure No UMD is disabled. Now insert a GAME UMD into the drive and try your game again.

Q: I want to get some homebrew, where is the best and safest place?
A:
I would strongly suggest to get it either from [Only registered users can see links. ] or [Only registered users can see links. ]
