Telly enthusiasts have discovered that, with a little fiddling, open source media centre application MythTV sits well on Sony’s game machine.

All you need is a Plextor ConvertX TV402U USB tuner, revised video drivers and a patch or two freely available on the internet.

The USB tuner funnels signals into the PS3, using Myth TV’s swanky interface to set up recordings, watch live programmes or even stream content from other Myth-enabled computers on your network.

The open source nature of Myth’s software means there are lots of add-ons, skins and extras too, and they’re all genuinely useful, having been crafted by users recognising a need and creating a solution.

It’s another string to Sony’s bow. Add it to the PS3’s [Only registered users can see links. ] and the PS3 suddenly becomes a PVR powerhouse. [Only registered users can see links. ] can’t get here quick enough.

Interesting...the PS3 can do so much and the more I learn about it the less shocked I am at the price tag but, I'm still not buying one either .
