Finally, something official from Sony. While we were grateful for the speculations as to the nearing European launch of the PS3 when everything else was quiet, it doesn't hurt to get something that's directly from the horse's mouth.
And now that we've got the buzz on the official price of the PS3 for Europe, via Sony's official site, we can't be too sure if we're glad the news came out. The Irish version of the official site says that the 60GB version will be priced at 629.99 (about US 814) - 30 more than what was previously announced.
As for the 20GB model, it also appears that it will be sold for 529.99 (around US 685), although, it will not be available "at launch" in Ireland.
Okay, so that was for the Irish site. As for the rest of Europe, we're still waiting for the sites to be localized. And again, SCEE has yet to give its comment. But at least we pretty much have an idea now as to how much should European gamers save up for in two months. Keep it posted here for more updates.
Hmmmm, yup, I don't live in Ireland
Ahhh, I'm not even sure if i'm gonna get a PS3 now anyway Cuz tis too much, i knew that already, but, got other priorities now I'll just stick with my wii I think, unless, there is a shock price cut announced lol (well, i can dream can't i? )
Oh, I read that and all I saw was that the 60gb is 30 euros (euros right? Ireland..euros) more than it was announced it would be. I was so shocked I couldnt read the rest...price increased....Europe....never...OMG....
At least 2007 looks like it could be the official launch date for the PS3 in Europe, thats good .

Hehe, yup, i seen that too. When i looked at the exchange rate last time though, UK price £425, was like $792, but now, £425 is $835
Why cant we just have it for £310 ($600=£305 really, but meh, £310 much better than £425 )
Earlier today we told you guys about the official Euro price tags for the PS3, where we said that instead of the 599 price originally announced, the console will sell for 629.99.
Eyebrows were raised over this sudden change of pricing, and before more of our European fellas start ranting about these sudden changes, allow us to clarify this bit of confusion.
GamesIndustry reports that according to a SCE spokesperson, it is true that the 60GB PS3 will sell for a higher price ( 629.99), that will only apply to Ireland. For the rest of Europe, the price is still set at 599.
The SCE spokesperson explained, "Ireland is traditionally more expensive than other territories. The VAT rate there is 21 per cent, whereas it can be as low as 16 per cent in other EU countries."
The spokesperson further added that the information posted on the Irish site is correct, BUT "This doesn't change the previously announced figures of EUR 499 and EUR 599 for the rest of Europe." Well, there you have it. And now that the pricing has been settled and confirmed, hopefully Sony can also confirm exactly when the console will hit Europe to put a stop to all the rumors and speculations going around.
Thats £328 for the 20gb and £394 for the 60gb (according to xe.com)
Is it me or will raising the prices cause the PS3 to be not so popular? I'm sorry but the more I read about the PS3 and the delays the less I want one. Sorry FONY I am not buying into this one...
