Killzone 2 Public BETA Test in October

Its been confirmed that the public beta will be open in October this year on PlayStation Network. The six classes available in the beta are:

* Rifleman: The default troop type. Starts wsith a variety of primary and secondary wepaons that include grenades. Bigger guns are unlockable as you progress up the ranks.
* Engineer: Allowed to set up automated turrets as primary ability. Can repair ammunition dumps, mounted guns and turrets damaged from weapons fire.
* Medic: Can revive teammates who have been shot down if they are reached in time. Can throw health packs which can be collected by other players.
* Assault Trooper: The Heavy Weapons class. Has thick armor thus they can take twice as much damage. Has a speedboost as their secondary ability.
* Tactician: The Captain of the group. Allowed to drop colored smoke grenades which serve as spawn points for his team. Can prove essential on the bigger Beta test maps as it can allow for a steady flow of friendly troops to the frontline. Can also call in air support (a sentry bot that flies low to tears into the enemy from above).
* Saboteur: Can assume the look of your opponents in order to infiltrate their camps. Can use sticky proximity-activated C4 charges. Making them lethal as they can throw these into enemy spawn-points once they’ve assumed their identity!

And the first screenshot of the cloak suit from the game's multiplayer has finally been released. The cloak suit will be available for anyone who chooses the Scout class in the beta (and final game), which obviously makes them really difficult to spot in a shootout, appearing only as a visual glitch similar to the Predator's cloaking in the classic 80's movie.

You can walk slowly through the shadows to remain almost completely undetectable, but if you move players will be able to notice you as the cloaking effect will lessen slightly.

The secondary ability of the Scout enables them to tag all the enemies on-screen with a hidden marker, which will broadcast the coordinates for those tagged players to his teammates.

Unlike in other games, the classes in Killzone 2 are not rigid, meaning you aren’t necessarily limited to the skills of the class you picked. Instead you are able to mix and match, taking a classes primary ability and mixing it with another secondary ability!

PS3 HDD Options: Western Digital 500GB 2.5" Ships, 1TB by 2010

If you're still having trouble tracking down Samsung's SpinPoint M6 to boost your PS3 HDD storage space, Western Digital is now [Only registered users can see links. ] a PS3-compatable 500GB 2.5-Inch drive ($220), with a whopping 1TB drive expected by 2010.

To quote: WD has just announced that it has started volume shipping its 500GB 2.5-inch Scorpio Blue drive, a notebook drive with 250GB per platter and a 5,400rpm spin speed. Seagate expects to ship its half terabyte 2.5-incher before the end of the year.

Our sources say WD and Fujitsu will have 750GB 2.5-inch drives by mid-2009 and 1 terabyte units by early 2010, if not the end of 2009. WD is building quite a track record of pipping Seagate by introducing notebook drives at progressively higher capacity points first, doing this with 250GB, 320GB and now 500GB models. This may not continue as Seagate has been catching up and will strive to match and exceed WD.

Confirmed: Infinity Ward Developing Call of Duty 6 for 2009!

Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith today confirmed that Call of Duty creator Infinity Ward, which most recently handled Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, will return to the franchise next year with Call of Duty 6.

"In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6," Griffith stated at today's Activision Blizzard Analyst Day. Earlier this year, the CEO revealed that a new Call of Duty game would arrive in 2009, but did not offer any other details at the time.

Confusingly, Griffith's presentation today seemed to date CoD 6 for 2010 as well. After discussing Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War, which he referred to as Call of Duty 5, the CEO said that "for calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the franchise."

Following publisher Activision's "leapfrog strategy" of alternating developers, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 6 will follow up Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War, which launches on November 5 for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PS2, and Wii. Treyarch had also developed Call of Duty 3 as a part of that strategy.

Burnout Paradise now a PlayStation 3 Platinum Game

The PlayStation 3’s Platinum Games line-up just keeps getting better. After the likes of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man, you can now race around Paradise City for less with Burnout Paradise joining the ranks.

When PS3 Platinum Games were first announced last month, Burnout Paradise strangely made it on to advertising posters, banners etc, but it never really showed up in stores. But it’s here now and should be in stores across India by the end of September at a discounted price of Rs 1,499.

Interestingly, Burnout Paradise is still not a Platinum title in the UK, which is strange because in such cases, India usually mirrors SCEE practices. Not that we’re complaining; we now have two decent racing games on the PS3’s Platinum line-up (and no, the other one is not NFS ProStreet).

Home Manager says firmware 2.50, Home 1.00 set for October

A tipster from the Home beta took a snapshot of this recent thread in the beta message board. A bug affecting Home users got a response from the Home Manager, "TedtheDog." The bug currently freezes PS3 systems running the beta and also gives users sporadic Network errors. He says that the bug will be fixed in an upcoming system software update. "2.5 is what we're waiting for and 'October' is what I've heard, later October is my guess."

The firmware update will also be released in conjunction with Home version 1.00, according to the post. Currently, the beta is at version 0.98. The simultaneous release of firmware 2.50 and Home 1.00 has us thinking that perhaps this could mark the beginning of the wide release of Home. Stay tuned.

Update: Since writing this article, the PS.blog has updated about the expansion of the Home beta. More invites are being sent to users right now. The continued growth of the beta adds even more weight to the possibility that the final version of Home will be available next month.

New Killzone 2 BETA Gameplay Video, BETA Invites on the Way!

A new Killzone 2 BETA Gameplay video is now available via YouTube courtesy of ps3teamfyre.

In related news, there several people are reporting that invites to the Killzone 2 closed BETA test went out today to a very limited number of European PlayStation 3 owners.

While there were no 'official' sign-ups being made for the Killzone 2 BETA, chances are SCEE is likely selecting users who applied for their BETA test initiative last July.

Needless to say, all details pertaining to the game are under NDA, and those selected are being asked to restrict sharing gameplay impressions only on Sony's European private BETA boards for the time being.

Video is below, enjoy!

SCEA Announces Expanded Availability for PSN Cards

SCEA has announced that they are expanding the availability of the PlayStation Network cards. As of October, the cards will be available from popular retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, and select Sam's Club outlets.

To quote: Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced they're "expanding the availability of the popular PlayStation Network Cards to additional major retailers nationwide this holiday season."

The cards allow you to bypass the Need for a credit card; you simply purchase the Network Card at the retailer (sure, use cash), bring it home, then dump the money into your virtual wallet for the Store.

And starting in October, these Cards will be available at Walmart, Best Buy, and select Sam's Club outlets. Sony will add Barnes & Noble College Bookstores in November, which should come as good news to all you university students out there.

no disrespect intended at all and if it is implied then i humbly apologize, but is it really necessary to include your name in the title of every thread you create ?.

i do believe people are intelligent enough to realize who is posting the articles without the need to include your name in the title bar.

again i apologize if i have offended you as it is not my intention to do so
