Pop the champagne and try out some bubbly. Thanks to the goodwill and free time of PS3 users, it seems as if the folks at Stanford have a lot to celebrate, what with the overwhelming turnout of [Only registered users can see links. ] after the release of [Only registered users can see links. ]'s [Only registered users can see links. ]
What do you have to celebrate? Well, in addition to having over 250,000 new members in the Folding@Home community thanks to the PS3, there has also been a significant increase in the processing power. According to a press release they forwarded to games sites, "PS3 users are delivering nearly 400 teraflops, achieving a total computing power of over 700 teraflops at a single moment. This is more than double the computing capacity of the network before PS3 joined the program."
Even more importantly, they've also managed to convert even more people to the cause of Folding@Home. The significant exposure brought about by the PS3 to Folding@Home has also increased the number of PCs using the program by 20 percent. That's definitely something to be happy about.
In the meantime, if you're a new owner, or have yet to actually join Folding@Home, why not be a part of the [Only registered users can see links. ]? As [Only registered users can see links. ] of ours mentioned:
Once you've launched the Folding@Home program, just press the triangle button to bring up the Options panel, select "Identity", and then select "Join an existing team". After that, just enter QJ.Net's team number (It's 52781) and, voila! You're now a part of QJ.Net's Folding@Home team.
Congratulations, guys and gals. You're doing a great service for mankind, and that's definitely something to be proud about!
