PS3 could outsell PS2

Sony is predicting that the PS3 is going to do better, in terms of lifetime sales, that the PS2.

SCEE president David Reeves has told journalists that, despite its slow start, the PS3 could be the biggest money spinner for the company long term.

Reeves related: "The PS3 install base is growing faster that the PS2's was at this point in its lifecycle".

"The next five years are going to be turbulent. But I think it is going to be the most exciting period that we have ever seen in the past ten years of video games."

But how is the PS3 going to do against rival consoles over its lifetime?

Reeves didn't touch on this, although recognising the increasing competition the PS3 is facing.

the ps2 was great. ps3 had some bad points but i think itll outsell the ps2 as well

People arent prepared to pay 300+ for a games console, if sony just lowered the price to atleast 250 for the 40gb it might sell a little more... what was the ps2's price when it first came out?

It'll take a long time to outsell the PS2 but it will probably get there in the end

The main thing with the PS3 is though you get a Blu-Ray player with it. So it's not just a gaming console. I think that's why the sales have been so good to be honest. I know people who were more inclined because of the Blue-Ray and then they remembered oh yeah we can play games on it too. So why not kill two birds with one stone? I don't think the price is too out of line considering although you can buy a stand alone blu-ray for $300 or $399 now.

You are getting bang for the buck but I know nothing about the games for the system but I don't hear too much about the games. Just seems everything is Wii/360 nowadays

Blu Ray and Super Audio CD, were some the reasons why I chose a PS3 over any other console.
