After something different, fruity and still packs a punch? You can't go past a lychee martini!

WARNING: These goes down almost too smooth... be careful and drink in moderation!

Some background

A favourite of the bar Double Happiness in Melbourne, Australia, we usually find ourselves there in the wee hours or Sunday morning, finishing off our night kicking back with a few of these babies.

To really pull this drink off, you'll want lychee infused vodka. Aim for around 2 cups of lychees (peeled and pitted, fresh or canned - pretty much the same result) to 750ml of vodka. Sit it in the fridge for a week or two (up to a month), giving the bottle or container a stir every 1-2 days. No need to strain, pour straight from the bottle.

You can, if you want, use a lychee liquor or syrup and add straight vodka... but more likely than not it ends up far too sweet. It's a martini... it's still meant to be dry to an extent.

A unique addition to this recipe is the ginger liquor - the more expensive, the better It smooths out the vodka and compliments the lychee flavour. Adding ginger liquor to a recipe using lychee syrup or liquor can make this a bit TOO smooth and sweet.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ingredients

60ml lychee infused vodka
15ml ginger liquor
1 peeled and pitted lychee

The Method
  1. Fill a 3oz martini glass with ice and set aside.
  2. Take your shaker, fill half with ice. Pour the two measures of lychee over the ice, followed by the measure of ginger liqour. Lid on the shaker and give it a good ol' rattle. Use the arms, above the head - nice and stylish! ;D
  3. Flick the ice out of the now chilled martini glass - set on counter/bench with a strainer on top. Strain the contents of the shaker into the glass.
  4. Either stab the peeled and pitted lychee with a cocktail toothpick and place across rim of the martini glass or drop it into the depths (my preference... means you have something to work towards while sipping ).
  5. Kick back, sip and enjoy - in moderation.

Happy shmoozing! ;D
