Sony cuts PS3 price and discontinues 60GB model

09.10.2007
Sony has dropped the price of its PlayStation 3 console, confirming rumours that it would do so.

A 60GB model will now cost £349, while the 40GB model will go on sale for £299.

The former will come bundled with two first-party games and a single controller, while the latter will feature only two USB ports and not have a multi-memory card slot or backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games.

Sony said it made the price cut following feedback from existing PS3 owners, although UK managing director Ray Maguire admitted that PlayStation early adopters may feel cheated for buying the console at a higher £425 price.

"I think it's natural to feel that way, of course it is," he told Gamesindustry.biz.

"The difference between our industry and many other industries is that if you're selling cars or houses the price goes up steadily. Consumer electronics only goes one way and that's downwards."

Sony has also announced that it will discontinue the 60GB version of the PS3 in Europe when the current stock has run out.

And it has to be the day i go to trade mine in, so got £40 less than if i hadda done it the day before

Still wondering if people will mad buy on ebay the 60gb versions, but, i dont wanna know, not really
