Nintendo Wii to Offer Streaming and Online Food Orders in 2009

Ah, but only if you live Japan. The service is reported to be partnering with the Demae-can.com online food ordering service to allow you to order a meal right through your Wii.

A wide variety of cuisine selections will be available including pizza, sushi, Chinese food, Japanese food and Western food. Mood music to match your selection will play in the background during the ordering process. Can’t decide what to eat? Let your Wii decide! The service will have a roulette mode that will randomly make a selection for you. Hmm does that remind you of the iPhone commercial when trying to find a restaurant?

One also has to wonder how this fits in with Wii Fit?

Monster Hunter G Announced for the Wii!

Monster Hunter G Announced for the Wii!

In the latest issue of Japanese gamers magazine, Famitsu, Capcom have announced another Monster Hunter title for the Wii called Monster Hunter G! Apparently, this is not the Monster Hunter G released in Japan only, before the confusion sets in, but a port of the PSP title Monster Hunter 2 Freedom!

This Wii version of Monster Hunter 2 Freedom is, apparently, 77% complete and due for release in early Spring, 2009. So if you have the PSP verrsion already, and you have Wii, this title will be released before the new Monster Hunter 3 which will be exclusive to Wii. Now, we all know the Wii is appears to be perfect for old games to be ported on the machine, we have seen old PS2 titles, shovelware, and other titles ported and the question needs to be answered why? Maybe to renew the interest in the Monster Hunter series in the West as it is such a hit in Japan especially the online component. Will the Wii Speak peripheral be used? It would certainly be useful for this title and personally I see the control system and screen size will be make a huge difference to the game that we seen on the PSP. No online fee has been confirmed as yet. If you think Capcom are doing a port as cheap cash in on a title already popular on a handheld is understandable and I see the point. No doubt I will be purchasing this title before the acclaimed Monster Hunter 3 makes its debut so Monster Hunter 2 Freedom in 480p on my HDTV would be a welcome port in this case. So, all Monster Hunter fans out there, expect to be playing Monster Hunter G (Monster Hunter 2 Freedom) again on the Wii next year! If you dont ahve the Wii and just the PSP then no regrets, in my case, it will be buying the same game again, but in extra large mode and hopefully an easier to control system before we get the new Monster Hunter 3. Confused? You bet I am! Pleased? You bet I am!

Wii Sales in USA for November

For a console that was once referred to as an impulse purchase it sure is making alot of stink in the gaming world.  Sure it doesn’t have titles like Gears of War 2,  Call of Duty 4, and Halo 3 but for some reason it appeals to the masses. I know alot of 360 owners who bought the Wii as their second console and get good use out of it.

Now let’s get to the good stuff, the stuff that makes Nintendo sleep well at night I am talking about the numbers of course.  In the month of November Nintendo sold over 2 million units. Yes, you read right 2 million, a record indeed.

Tomb Raider: Underworld Wii Glitch Prevents Completion

Bad news and good news for Wii gamers that bought the new Tomb Raider: Underworld game - a glitch in one level might just prevent you from finishing the game. The good news is that Eidos is stepping in and one gamer has posted up some possible ‘fixes’ to help you complete the game and bypass the glitch.

The video below shows the point in the game where the glitch in question occurs as you near the end of the Coastal Thailand level - the lever you swing onto doesn’t always appear:

Super Paper Mario Review

IGN SAYS

The newest chapter of the Paper Mario story isn’t just out of this world … it’s out of this dimension. What at first glance appears to be a 2-D sidescroller ripped straight from the pages of the Paper Mario universe soon turns into a 3-D action-adventure that defies all video game logic. Fusing 2-D and 3-D perspectives, not to mention RPG and platformer elements, the game slips back and forth between dimensions. The action sprawls across eight worlds filled with traps, puzzles, bizarre mysteries and items that often draw themselves out of thin air. Oh, and just because Mario’s in the title doesn’t mean he’s the only star — players also get to play as Peach and Bowser.

STORY 7/10

The storyline in Super Paper Mario isn’t really anything special, but it’s certainly one to honor for its fine script and clever writing. An evil magician named Count Bleck plans on taking over the world (how original), and as Mario you’ll need to stop him by finding the pieces of the purity heart that’ll allow you to do so. In truth, the storyline is actually really crazy. I watched a VERY short clip on youtube about the ending (as I had only played like first first couple hours of the game to get a taste), and I saw something which REALLY got me confused and curious! but I’d rather not give too much away. It looks like there is a highly unexpected twist at the end.

GRAPHICS 9/10
We’re all used to the side view Super Mario Adventures. Super Paper Mario takes this to an interesting new ‘dimension’ where you’re suddenly put from 2D to 3D in a flip (literally)

Graphics are colourful and smooth!

MUSIC 7/10
It’s like when you buy the NEW album of your favorite band. You hear something new, but you can still tell it’s them!

Super paper mario still provides new/original sounds and music with all your favorites and some new stuff. Plugged into a good sounding stereo will give you a great experience!

And AMAZON
At the beginning of the game, the player controls Mario directly, and later obtains Princess Peach, Bowser, and Luigi as playable party members. The player controls the characters by holding the Wii Remote sideways like a NES controller.[6] While the 2 button causes the character to jump, akin to the A button in Super Mario Bros. games for NES, the 1 button controls Pixls, kindred spirits that perform special actions. Mario and his party must use these new abilities, such as turning sideways to slip through cracks, hammering down large blocks, or planting bombs to defeat foes, to advance. One of these allows Mario to run, making the 1 button on the Wii Remote analogous to the B button on an NES controller, though Mario’s other standard B-button abilities, such as grabbing, require different Pixls. With the Pixl Tippi or Tiptron, the player can also point to the screen with the Wii Remote to find out their next objective, identify features on the screen such as hidden objects and find out information about an enemy or character. Both the current character and Pixl can be switched out at any time during the game, though characters and Pixls are occasionally separated from the main party, rendering them unplayable for a time.

The game is very dialogue heavy but at least its creative. Much of it is very humorous and will have you laughing quite a bit. But when I say dialog heavy, I’m not kidding. You’ll be mashing on the 2 button a lot. It wouldn’t be so bad if characters didn’t go on to explain such things that were useless.

The game is clearly pointed towards a young audience, but it’s a credit to its design that even adults have a lot of fun hopping along towards the goals. For some reason you can’t run here - which can be frustrating sometimes - but in general you get the same mario fun from previous games. You learn new skills as you go, can throw items, change characters, locate new helpers, and level up.

The game is nicely broken up into short segments, again perfect for its target audience. If a kid has only 1/2 hr of “video game” time available in a given day, they can still make progress and feel like they’ve achieved something. The puzzles are never so tricky that they drive you completely insane. A careful perusal of the spot you’re in will usually provide the answer.

An adult might complain that because of this, if you actually have control of the TV and a full weekend of gaming laid out, you could easily beat the entire game before the weekend was up. While this is true, you can always go back through after that and challenge yourself to find even more points on each level.

And for those with youngsters around, it really is great fun to play together. The game is very ‘friendly’ - if you step in sludge or fall off a cliff, which most games would kill you for, here it usually is just a minor setback.

In a world of zombie games, kill-everyone games and horror games, it’s nice to find something that you can play with all ages and have fun with. It doesn’t require a ton of dexterity or a complex understanding of role playing setup. You just run, jump, and puzzle-solve.

IGN SAYS
As always with any Nintendo game console, the first Super Mario game is one of the defining experiences on the system. Join Mario as he ushers in a new era of video games, defying gravity across all the planets in the galaxy. When some creature escapes into space with Princess Peach, Mario gives chase, exploring bizarre planets all across the galaxy. Since he’s in space, Mario can perform mind-bending jumps unlike anything he’s done before. He’ll also have a wealth of new moves that are all based around tilting, pointing and shaking the Wii Remote.

GRAPHICS 9/10
Well it’s the Wii, so we gotta give it a lil flexibility here.

Super Mario Brothers 1 for the original Nintendo Entertainment System changed how games were made back then. Mario has gone through a LOT of adventures…and still keeps his mustache. This is something we have never really seen before.

There aren’t really any “high quality in game movies”. The graphics pretty much stay the same the whole way through. But the small details, like running through flowers, and they all move, or the star bits, or how the draw back rate (how far you can see into the distance)…it’s almost 1/2 as great of an experience to stop playing the game and look around at everything (something we were first introduced to in MARIO 64).

Colours are EXCELLENT! I had no freezing or choppiness issues. A truly gorgeous experience!

SOUND 8/10
Mario has been known for its unique and quarky music and sounds. The Wii only has the “red and white” audio cables, which is only going to give you STEREO sound (not hi-def) but with a decently loud stereo or something, you’ll get a good experience. There are some original sounds, and some new sounds. Good music!

GAME PLAY 9.9/10
Where do I begin.

You’re using the nunchuck to move Mario and the Wii mote to perform some actions as well as the buttons (what did you expect?)

It is a lil tricky to get at first, but it doesn’t take long to get comfortable with.

There are some levels which really turn things around

In the level above, mario is balancing on a sphere. And you hold the Wii mote like an umbrella

Mario will roll in the direction you tilt the wiimote (really challenging at first) but as you do it a lil more, it’s really fun!

Various levels which really push the Wii controls to the limit. Extremely fun!!

The only small part of Mario Galaxy I will almost say FAIL is the CO-OP

CO-OP 6/10
You can have a second Wiimote on the screen which is pretty much just another “mouse cursor” which a second player can highlight and collect coins and stuff + the second player and “stunn” opponents for 1st player mario to go and get ‘im OR shoot coins at opponents.

…fun…

I rented it for about two weeks and had a blast with it. I made it through a few levels, but I’m looking forward to buying it and finishing it.

EXCELLENT game! It’ll hold Mario up strong for a real long time. What will Nintendo do with him next?
